Kilwins started in 1947 under the leadership of Don and Katy Kilwin, who shared a goal of spreading their love of sweets and desserts. This husband-and-wife duo believed chocolate could and should be different, stressing the importance of quality above all else.

Don and Katy started small, selling baked goods and humble batches of chocolate. It was unlike any other chocolate they could have imagined; they knew they had something special. 

We at Kilwins have lived up to our name of being “Sweet in every Sense since 1947”. This is evident by our amazing lineup of confections, including Mackinac Island Fudge, caramels, caramel corn, peanut brittle, and caramel apples. Any one of these delicious treats makes a stroll down the Alamo Plaza even better.

The Alamo in San Antonio takes you back in time to pivotal points in Texas history. Complete with tours, exhibits, and shows, it is the perfect place to visit with friends and family. If there’s one item that perfectly captures the legacy of Kilwins, it is our Heritage Chocolate. Founders Don and Katy Kilwin started making their chocolates by hand and have carried over that tradition today. 

You will find a huge assortment of confections made with our Heritage Milk, Dark, and White Chocolate in our Downtown San Antonio Alamo chocolate store. When it comes to our chocolates, one bite is never enough! We have something for everyone to enjoy, from our TUTTLE™ Nut Caramels to various fudge flavors.

Kilwins Caramel Apples

Kilwins isn’t just home to superb chocolates; we are proud of our selection of caramel apples. Like with all our products, it all starts with finding the finest ingredients. We select only the best Granny Smith apples to be the base of our iconic dessert. 

Then, the apple is hand-dipped in creamy caramel to give it a golden-brown glow. (The caramel at Kilwins is made in a copper kettle, just like it was in the 1940s.) We then top the apples off with premium toppings like milk chocolate or nuts. Enjoy a one-of-a-kind fusion of creamy, crunchy, and caramel-y goodness.

Kilwins broke into the ice cream business in 1985. We started selling ice cream in small quantities and in a few flavors only. As businesses grew, we were able to expand and create the Kilwins-exclusive flavors you love today. 

Our Original Recipe Ice Cream is kosher-certified and made from premium ingredients. We at Kilwins insist on making every product with only the finest ingredients.

Making ice cream is a complex process—no shortcuts here. One of our key methods includes using climate-controlled trucks to transport our ice cream to each store. This allows us to maintain the temperature and consistency before it arrives on store shelves. Our packaging is superior as well; we only use customized containers that ensure optimal quality.
