Our boxed chocolates, made with our Heritage Chocolate recipe that dates back to 1947, is one thing we’re recognized for. We’re also proud of our caramel apples: We call them “perfect” for a good reason. First, we decide which Granny Smith apples are the right shape. Then, we dip them in our copper-kettle-made caramel and sprinkle them with candy, nuts, and more. We are thrilled to share with Denver our Mackinac Island Fudge, made the way our founder, Don Kilwin, did many decades ago, and how it’s supposed to be made—no rushed, mass-manufactured products here. Throughout the week, our Denver team members make fudge on marble countertops by hand like they do up north on Mackinac Island in Michigan. It’s far creamier and smoother than any other fudge, and one slice is hardly enough.

From Michigan to Denver: Our Family Recipes

Kilwins, founded in 1947 by Don and Katy Kilwin in Petoskey, Michigan, began small. However, soon their dream grew, thanks to their incredible recipes and focus on quality—both in ingredients and customer service. 

Our handcrafted chocolates menu has since expanded to include dozens of sweets, including our super-premium ice cream and hand-dipped caramel apples. Our commitment to five-start ingredients and traditional techniques makes our desserts as relevant today as they were over seven decades ago. 

Today, Kilwins has a home in Denver, where we uphold the nostalgic charm and incredible desserts that make Kilwins such a sweet experience. Denver’s gold rush is long over, but Kilwins brings desserts that are almost as valuable. Before our ice cream gets to you, it is made with premium ingredients that help create the creamy, rich texture Kilwins ice cream is known for. Kilwins started out making chocolates in 1947, and in 1985, dreamed up an incredible ice cream recipe. We consider our 1985 recipe to be peak perfection, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking of new ways to make it even better. We’ve added a few things, like our Kilwins-owned and operated temperature-controlled transport trucks so the temperature of the ice cream stays at the Goldilocks level—just right. 

We created a kosher-certified ice cream incomparable to any other by working hard on our techniques and flavors. Our commitment to uncompromising quality and customer satisfaction ensures that every scoop is a delight from start to finish.
