Our Heritage Chocolate is made using the original Kilwins recipe from 1947. Our caramel is also made using our founders’ original recipe, and we still craft it by hand in our old-fashioned copper kettles. Even our creamy Mackinac Island Fudge is made by hand and shaped on marble countertops, just like it has been for over 75 years. 

Located in the historic Sellars Building, our Apex chocolate store is situated in the heart of Downtown Apex and is conveniently close to local shopping and community parks. With such a front-and-center location, it’s a breeze to stop in and indulge in a quick treat. 

When Kilwins was founded in 1947, our founders didn’t plan to be as big as we are now or to become a national favorite. Back when our founders opened the first store in Petoskey, MI, their goals were simple: to perfect their chocolate recipe and spread joy among their friends and neighbors.

Nowadays, while our community is larger than ever before, our values remain the same—making chocolates by hand and with love. We’re proud to report our founders succeeded in both of their goals, and many of the delicious sweets available at our Apex chocolate store are made using their original recipes and processes.

Just like our rich Heritage Chocolate and copper-kettle-cooked caramel, our Original Recipe Ice Cream draws on our time-tested recipe and high-quality ingredients. With a wide variety of classic flavors and a selection of premium toppings, our ice cream is the ultimate customizable treat.

As the name suggests, our Original Recipe Ice Cream is made with the same recipe we’ve used since 1985, which is when we first introduced this chilly treat. Since then, we have continued to expand our menu. Now, our Apex chocolate store features our Original Recipe Ice Cream in flavors featuring chocolate, vanilla, bits of fudge, and fruit flavors. If you can dream it up, we have probably had it on the menu.

Although our selection of classic and limited-edition flavors is quite impressive, the real key to our ice cream’s superior texture and flavor is the ingredients. Our ice cream base is made from only the finest ingredients we can find. We also use premium inclusions to guarantee the highest quality.

Our commitment to perfection goes beyond the recipe. Once the ice cream is mixed, we transport it to our Apex ice cream store using temperature-controlled trucks staffed by our own ice cream experts. This is done to protect its rich flavors and creamy textures. 

Additionally, all of our ice cream flavors are 100 percent kosher-certified. If you’re not sure which flavor to start with, ask one of our team members if you can sample a few of them!
