When Don and Katy Kilwin founded Kilwins in 1947, it began as a bakery. They then shifted their focus to candy-making, eventually selling the bakery side of the business to dedicate themselves fully to crafting chocolates and fudge. They worked tirelessly to deliver the finest confections to their guests. Today, we proudly carry on their tradition, preserving their proprietary recipes in our Mackinaw City chocolate store and continuing to uphold the Kilwins legacy as the perfect place for all chocolate and ice cream enthusiasts.

Our batch of caramel apples is made with Granny Smith apples and hand-dipped in our store with our signature kettle-cooked caramel. The result is a flawless apple coated with creamy and rich caramel and dressed in the finest toppings, from milk chocolate to peanuts and pecans.

Of course, where would Kilwins be without our signature Mackinac Island Fudge? It all started when founder Don Kilwin bought a marble table and started mastering the art of fudge making. Since then, more flavors of this delicious fudge have graced our stores all over the country, such as chocolate, sea salt, and peanut butter. 

The History of Mackinac Island Fudge

Mackinaw City is a particularly meaningful place for Kilwins. Mackinaw City is the door to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the historic Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island started producing its namesake fudge in the 19th century, and we still use the same method at Kilwins. We make fudge using Mackinac Island’s original method—pouring hot, kettle-made fudge on cool marble, pushing and pulling the fudge until it’s ready to cut into delicious slices. 

We take this method wherever we go, bringing the magic of Mackinac Island to people near and far.

Kilwins has been in the ice cream game since 1985. Kilwins’ kosher-certified ice cream is transported with our own temperature-controlled trucks to ensure absolute standard and quality.
